This module is about the new, transforming city. We are at a new stage in urban development. This asks for new development and new phrasing.

PARTICIPATING UNIVERSITIES: St. Lucas School of Architecture Brussels-Ghent University of Strathclyde, Glasgow It’s about exploring and discovering new analyzing methods and techniques, investigate theoretic frames and develop design instruments and special concepts related to new images of society. This for example includes the reinterpretation of the paradigm of the modern city, the dispersed metropolis, the relation between landscape and city, the meaning of public space, the restructuring of the existing city the post-industrial society including the old industry society and all of them based on the so called ‘knowledge economy’. KEYWORDS: • Social theory of the city, civic society, civic space. • Planning theory. Collaborative planning, development planning. • Design and analyses of the urban landscape. • Research and Studio based. KEY QUESTION: What is the nature of the new forms of urbanism that are emerging? (In terms of social, political, economical, spatial etc.) And what are the instruments/concepts we need to cope with/handle/treat these new forms. courses and projects |
