In Warsaw, you can see most clearly how the city is taking full advantage of the unique opportunities arising from the emergence of free market and the development of democracy. Poland's capital is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. The city has become one big construction and renovation site. The office and commercial buildings commissioned in the recent years accommodate hundreds of businesses, research institutions, banks and international organisations. Warsaw with a population of nearly 2 million, is the country's largest university and research centre with an enormous and highly skilled workforce. There are also 10,000 to 20,000 Western managers, specialists working in the capital. Warsaw is also attractive in cultural and tourist terms. Faculty of Architecture WUT The Faculty of Architecture is one of the faculties of Warsaw University of Technology, with a total student enrolment of about 1100 and an academic staff of 125, including 25 professors, many of whom are nationally recognised architects with considerable creative achievements. This is also one of the largest schools of architecture in the country, established in 1915. The Faculty of Architecture, apart from undergraduate and graduate studies in Architecture and Urban Design, offers a 4-year advanced-level studies leading towards PhD. Also, the Faculty offers 2-year part-time postgraduate studies in the Preservation of Historical Buildings and Monuments and Urban Design and Physical Planning, for practising professionals. The Faculty is a member of a few European educational associations (EAAE, ECAADE, AESOP) as well as in the USA (ACSA, ACADIA). The Faculty cooperates with several architectural schools in Europe within SOCRATES scheme. Faculty research activities are linked to the University, national research organisations, as well as international programmes.
