About Eindhoven
The TU/e is one of the three Dutch technical universities and an international leader in many research fields. The Department of Architecture, Building & Planning is the largest at the University with about 1800 students and has an outstanding reputation in design and research. The faculty comprises many disciplines relevant for the built environment and offers a multidisciplinary culture that mixes design science, technology and entrepreneurship. The faculty currently has about 1100 Undergraduate Students, 650 Master Students, 40 PhD-students and 110 staff and part time tutors. More than 10% of the Master students are international exchange students.
With Amsterdam and Rotterdam, Eindhoven is one of Mainports of The Netherlands, functioning as a Brainport, a centre of knowledge economy in one of the top technology regions of Europe. Eindhoven is a creative city, a design capital of Europe with many cultural facilities, an urban ambience and accessible natural areas. It is located in the south-eastern part of The Netherlands 20 km from Belgium and 60 km from Germany. The greater metropolitan area has a population of about 700,000 and 32,000 companies are located here. By train, Amsterdam is 1.5 hours, Rotterdam 1.2 hours and Maastricht 45 minutes away.
A city of 19th Century, a site of the development of technology, from where an important contribution to the changing image of world culture was born (Philips). Recently Eindhoven has recently been designated by national government as one of the mainports of The Netherlands, next to Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Eindhoven is marked as the Brainport of The Netherlands, centre of Dutch knowledge economy.
